2008
Annual Nonprofit Summit - Feb. 20th & 21st "Getting Your Piece of the Pie" The Nonprofit Resource Center of Alabama (NRCA) developed the Nonprofit Summit several years ago as a theme-based educational forum at which members would convene to share experiences and hear timely discussions about critical issues facing the nonprofit sector. The Summit has now evolved into an annual event that attracts hundreds of nonprofit executives, professionals and volunteers from around the state of Alabama. There are thousands of nonprofit organizations in Alabama, all working to find the resources they need to fulfill their missions and build their capacity. To keep growing, agencies must move toward a diversified fund development strategy that includes major gift cultivation and earned income initiatives. In 2008, the Summit theme will be "Getting Your Piece of the Pie," a message about how nonprofits can prepare and position themselves to better compete for a 'sustaining slice of the philanthropic pie.' The event begins on Wednesday, February 20th with a variety of pre-conference sessions featuring national-known fund development experts leading indepth discussions on fund development basics, organizational development, and donor communications. The first day will conclude with a reception, offering participants the opportunity to network with associates and exhibitors. The main day of the event, Thursday, February 21st, will begin with an inspiring message from Dr.Paul Pribbenow, who will share thoughts from his latest book manuscript "Philanthropic Fundraising as a Calling." Our luncheon keynote, nationally-known author and speaker Kay Sprinkel Grace, will highlight some common fundraising errors that thwart board members, volunteers, and staff alike. In addition, the event will again feature four sets of concurrent breakout sessions (two sets in the morning and another two sets in the afternoon) offering both basic and advanced discussions on fund development, topics relevant to marketing and communications, and topics dealing with governance issues relevant to fund development.
